Stuff That Brings Me Joy: BOM Challenge #1

For forever, I've wanted to do a scrapbook of me and my life. I finally stepped up, and to make myself do it, I'm hosting a Book of Me Challenge at AMR. My first prompt I borrowed from the uber creative Revlie. I love how clean and simple it looks and the listing for journaling. Since a lot of us have taken a little break from scrapping, I thought this would be a great warm-up challenge for our book.

Just a few things before we begin:
1. This challenge is just for fun, so don't stress yourself out.
2. Modify the challenge so that it fits you and your needs for your album. I don't want you to look back and be unhappy with your layout because you were trying to
meet some set of rules.
3. Have fun and be open about yourself. Heck, I'd like for you to post your layouts each week (or even to the thread if you finish late), but you can put this book away to be private until you're ready to share it with your family, etc one day.
4. I want my album to be REAL and to not always be sugar-coated or to make my life seem like it's always rosey. I tend to mostly scrap about the happy things and leave out the rest.
5. ALBUM SIZE: Do it ANY size you want. I'm going to do an American Crafts 12x12 d-ring (3 ring binder type)that I got at a discount store. This way, I can move my layouts around, do some pages 8x8, 8 1/2 x11, or whatever size I'm feeling. This will allow me to do some page protectors of different sizes to go back and add memorabilia or report cards or whatever from my younger years (and maybe the album won't seem too bulky).
6. I'm ATTEMPTING to do a similar layout of my DH each time. I'm going to ask him about journaling, but I may have to do most/all of it. We'll see how that goes. I just want my children to have a similar album of him as well.
7. I don't mind if you incorporate this into any other challenges here or on any other challenge site.
8. Use your good supplies on this one. I'll say it again.....when we are gone from this world, all that will be left of us are our families and our albums. If we only use our "so so scrappy stuff", our good stuff will be sold or given away, and
our families will have an album that we thought was "so so". (I'm working hard on doing this!)
9. Feel free to scraplift or use the same title/idea as the examples. Seriously...NO STRESS!

07.08.09 @ 10:11:12

Elizabeth posted this fun challenge on her blog to take a pic of what you were doing at 10:11 today, and I actually remembered to do it! On 07.08.09 at 10:11:12, I was watching Gilmore Girls on ABC Family and folding sheets. What were you doing? Oh, you can still participate and post a pic of what you are doing tonight at 10:11:12 pm (your time zone).

The Best Sis in the World & a Tutu!

I've been itching to make some scrappy stuff and some not-so-scrappy, but scrapable, stuff lately. I have all these ideas running in my head, so let's just hope that they all work out like I'd like them to. Here's one that I've been meaning to do for a while. Check out what my crafty momma self made! Yep, a tutu! What do you think?

I must say that I have to have the sweetest, coolest, most thoughtful sister in the world. Yep, her mouth probably just hit the floor when she read that, LOL! See, we used to fight like cats and dogs when we were younger, and to be honest, we still do every once in a while. Anywho, things haven't been so peachy for me lately, and she sent me this sweet package to cheer me up. How cool is that? She knows just how to make me smile.

Check out the vintage book pages, sheet music, buttons, trim, postage stamps, and the journaling spots that I've been eying for a long time now. She even shared some of her yard sale goodies with me that I posted about before and some yummy Prima flowers.

I couldn't wait to rip into the cute little package. She wrote a sweet little note and everything. Thanks so much sis, I love you bunches, too! You really are the best, and I'm so glad I have your shoulder to snot on!

I have two questions for you...1).What do you think of the tutu AND 2).What's the sweetest (or meanest) thing your sibling has ever done to you?

Pinwheels!

Davinie hosted a challenge over at the Studio Calico blog to make pinwheels and add them to projects. I decided to make a couple of cards to start building up my back-up card stash. I love the way they look using double-sided paper. How about you? Have you used any pinwheels lately?

Challenges

I hosted a progressive challenge this weekend at one of my favorite places. I decided to challenge myself in the process, and I scraplifted. It's always been a challenge for me to scraplift, because my layout changes or ends up in a different direction.

I used my awesomely talented sister's layout for the progressive challenge rules, and then I scraplifted. What do you think?

Here's her fab layout (she said it only took her about 15 minutes):

And here's my scraplift of it (yeah, it took me a lot longer than 15 on this one!):

I got to meet Jenni Bowlin!!!

I got to meet the coolest scrapbooking designer/celebrity today...the fabulous, Jenni Bowlin!!! She was SUPER sweet and so down-to-earth...just like you'd hope someone uber cool like that would be! Here's a pic of us with her...(how funny that we all dressed in pink, huh? SO not planned!)

Here's some shots of the fun yard sale stuff she had...I wish I had gotten a shot of the scrapbook supply table, GAH!

And here's what I came home with...(she was super sweet to cut everyone a deal even with her awesome prices on scrappy stuff, too!)

And here's my sister's haul...I won't tell you how much she spent, but gosh, she got a lot (you really can't even see 1/4 of it here)!

Graduation and Mother's Day

I am so itching to create some scrappy goodness. For a Mother's Day gift, I made a set of cards. My mom was so sweet when she said she wasn't gonna give them away, she was going to keep them. LOL! I hope she's kidding! I sadly was in a hurry to finish them and didn't get a picture of them or the Mother's Day card, but it looked almost exactly like this grad card I made. I was so stumped with this one at first...I just don't have any grad stamps or anything. I added a "Congratulations" sentiment with a stamp on the inside. I ran across a Fiskars Apron Lace punch that I've been wanting so much. Isn't it cute? It's even cuter that it was on sale for 30% off. Whatcha think?

ETA supplies:
Numbers & Brackets: Pink Paislee
Yellow dot paper: K & Co (I think)
All other paper: Basic Grey Urban Prairie
Punch: Fiskars
Ribbon: Michael's
Card base: Target
Ink: Colorbok Cateye (gray)

Happy National Scrapbook Day!

Lots of fun stuff to tell you about today, but first, will you pretty please do me a favor? I wanna win a Studio Calico kit so bad, and they are giving away 2, yes TWO, 6 month subscriptions to their kit club to someone who refers a new friend AND that friend. SO, my request for you is to go to the Studio Calico Message Board by Saturday night, become a member, and tell them on that exact post that your friend "Abby" sent you. Pretty please? And maybe both of us will be creating with some pretty awesome kits for FREE! Here's a link to their blog where you can go to find out more info about this and their other ways to win!

Next, All Moments Remembered is having a member hosted crop today and tomorrow. They have some fun challenges going on and some other inspiring stuff I'll post about later this week.

And for all of you who love a giveaway, Kenner Road has one, and Hambly has a blog hop with chances to win! Hope you're having a Happy National Scrapbook Day!
